Horses & Ponies
Southwell Ploughing Match and Show holds a huge variety of classes for Horses and Ponies. There is something for everyone at any level. We have our Hunters and Working Hunters, where we usually have an excellent turn out. We have showing classes, In Hand classes and turn out classes. Show Jumping has its own section for Horses and Ponies running all different heights of fences. The aim of our Horse and Pony section is to provide a class for everyone, whatever ability the competitor is. All of our horse rings have a viewing area for the general public, we are very proud to have had Horse of the Year Show winners in our classes and members of all of the local riding clubs. Find out more about the available classes below and in our schedule.

Show Ring Classes
Mountain and Moorland ponies are invited to compete in their natural state in Ridden and In Hand Classes, and there are full sections for Coloured Horses and Ponies.
Last year we introduced an Open Cob Class in the Main Ring which was a great success.
We have a new section for Concours D' Elegance, including an In Hand Concours Class. This section features riders and horses in traditional and historic outfits. They parade in the main ring with commentary so the public can learn about them.
Also parading in the main ring is our Fancy Dress class. This is a novelty class with momento rosettes for all competitors. Costumes are inventive and imaginative and sometimes whole families make up an exhibit. This class is judged by the President of the show's guest.
Every year we provide a ring for the Riding For the Disabled, and we are delighted to host their classes.
“Very enjoyable day yesterday. Please forward my thanks and appreciation to everyone who helped to organise such a wonderful day. The amount of people turning up just shows what a success the Southwell Ploughing Match has become.”
