Tractor Ploughing
Ploughing is the ancient art of turning the soil over to create a seedbed for the next crop. Our ploughing classes reflect the equipment used. Tractor and trailer ploughs from the 1940’s through the 50’s when the ever present grey Fergie with its own plough was very popular. During the 70’s and 80’s tractors and ploughs got bigger, right up to the modern era with large four wheel drive tractors with multi-furrowed ploughs. Whatever size equipment is being used the aim is the same, to turn the soil over, bury all the surface trash underneath and to do it as straight as possible without any modern driver aids.
All the competitors assemble in the field at 8.30am, ready to begin ploughing at 9am. There are lots of rules, but all ploughing must be concluded by 1.30pm.
